Book 24: The Amber Spyglass

The Amber Spyglass was a good ending to a series. It summed everything up and left one question still to haunt you but not the kind that tears you apart, like the questions at the end of Lures. I found it very enjoyable though it was dry at times.

As most ending books it was very very dark. Will and Lyra traveled to the world of the dead and on their return to the living almost died. They were hunted by any manner of horrible people and things and it really made you question whether or not this book could have a "happy" ending. The other day when I was waiting for The Prince's (The student run newspaper at my school) to start our teach coorinator was talking about A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and how books need to end on an up beat. We really don`t want to believe that there's no hope in the world so we write books with hopeful endings and The Amber Spyglass lived up to this expectation very well.

I give this book 6 marzipan's out of 10. You can't really leave off on The Subtle Knife so you really need to read it but it wasn't the best book ever. It was an ending. If you read the first one finish the series and don't let the ending stop you from reading the beginning. Read this series. It's worth the time

Book 23: Lures: A Novel

Unfortunately, due to English class, my reading has been set back. This is an odd statement to make seeing as though English is suppose to promote reading but because I dislike the class so much I've been put off reading until we had to do a book report. Lures was one of the books that we could read and it sounded the most interesting. My teacher also gave me Sophie`s World by Jostein Gaarder because she thought I would enjoy it, but I digress.

Lures was a wonderful and disturbing book. It`s about too English family`s living in Quebec  and their troubles. It was a very very tragic story and left me with knots in my stomach and tear streaks on my face countless times. The main character, who ties both family's together, is Grace. Grace is in the middle of everything and it's messing her up big time. She doesn't know who she is and she's very lost. Stuff goes down, she finds a guy who's nice to her and the story resolves. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending of the book because it left a lot of questions and it didn't really feel like it was over. It was kind of disappointing but good none the less.

I give this book 7 ice cream cones out of 10. If it had a better ending then it would have been a 10 but whatever. You should defiantly read this book. You won't regret it.
